Wonderful World 2019

“All the children loved it and enjoyed the variety of activities and shows. It was truly an event to remember. Bee hives, crafts (lanterns and masks) and the stunning shows, performance arts, trampoline all captured children’s imaginations and to hear the children’s comments and laughter was heart-warming.  More please, excellent!”

The Culture House’s 2019 outdoor summer programme of street arts, circus and music events in People’s Park, Grimsby began on Sunday 4 August, with ‘Wonderful World’ – when local residents and visitors had the opportunity to see a range of outstanding performances and take part in a range of other activity.

The day’s programme ran from 11am – 4pm and included a variety of acts from around the country.

Supported by Arts Council England, North East Lincolnshire Council and the Without Walls Outdoor Arts Consortium, Wonderful World also hosted popular circus and craft workshops, as well as nature activities.

Artists performing at Wonderful World included Artizani with Bees the Colony, A Bird in the Hand with The Bewonderment Machine, Strong Lady Productions with ‘Strong Lady’, ‘Dad Dancing’ by Dick Danger and Anyday by Max Calaf Seve, a trampoline-based performance act.

Just have to say – yesterday was brilliant! Not every day I am used as a piece of weightlifting equipment!!

It was a lovely chilled atmosphere and we are lucky to have something like this in Grimsby. So many so called family events just seem to be one long money extraction ploy. This was quirky, interesting and free. Well done to all involved!

It really was amazing.. My faves were the bees (especially the disco ones) and the guy on the trampoline. He was mesmerising and so funny. It was a truly inspired event. Well done xxx

Charlotte Bowen of The Culture House said:

“Wonderful World aims to make high quality performance accessible to everyone and we’re always pleased to utilise our fantastic town centre space for this.

“We’ve hosted a number of outstanding touring acts as seen at major festivals that local people might not otherwise have the opportunity to see close to where they live.

“We always aim for this day to be both an inspiring and entertaining day for local people and visitors and we’ve received some great feedback about our 2019 event.

“The Picnic in the Park programme offers residents and visitors the opportunity to take time out and relax, they’re simple events with great music across a range of genres.”
