Taking place on Sunday 30 July 2017, from 11am to 4pm in the beautiful town centre space of People’s Park in Grimsby, this fantastic free event will follow on from the Dong Energy Great Grimsby 10K race.
Grimsby-based arts and cultural organisation The Culture House Ltd, is delighted to announce that its outdoor summer programme in People’s Park, Grimsby will begin on Sunday 30 July.
Residents and visitors will have the opportunity to experience a range of outstanding street performances, following the Dong Energy Great Grimsby 10K which ends in People’s Park just as the Wonderful World festival begins.
The day’s programme includes a wide range of acts from around the country as well as performances from leading local musicians.
Supported by Arts Council England, North East Lincolnshire Council and Lincs Inspire, the event will also offer sports sessions, crafts, face-painting and nature activities.
Performers appearing at Wonderful World include Mr and Mr Nutkins – giant walkabout squirrels by Cirq Delight, Daft as a Brush performing an internationally travelled street show that includes daring shoes balancing and a ‘coat hanger escape’, Rhubarb Theatre performing walkabout shows The Admiral Admirals and The Big Dippers, Thingumajic Theatre with their Kit and Caboodle show – a donkey which houses a theatre in its side and among others 2Faced Dance with a superhero show, ‘KAPOW’.
Audiences can also try their hand in The Actual Reality Arcade – a newly commissioned, artist-designed, life-sized interactive game zone for all ages, inspired by classic arcade games.
Once in the arcade, audiences can take on the challenge of 12 games, including Frogger and Tetris, using their mind, body and imagination to succeed. Conceived by UK artist Matthew Harrison, the piece responds to a need, in modern day society, for real experience and participation.
Wonderful World, takes place from 11am until 4pm and the public is strongly advised to walk to this free event, given that road closures will be place for the 10K.

Charlotte Bowen, event director for The Culture House said:
“Wonderful World aims to make high quality arts and culture accessible to everyone and we’re always pleased to host this event in the heart of the town in the beautiful space that is People’s Park.
There will be a number of touring acts as seen at major festivals around the country performing on 30 July.
The new partnership approach to the event in conjunction with the Dong Energy Great Grimsby 10K also allows the festival to provide a celebratory and relaxing end to the race itself, which this year will see 2500+ runners coming through.”
